Another perfect Spring day for sport at the 2nd Semi Final played at Freeling on Saturday. The club was well represented with 6 netball teams playing and 3 football sides taking the field.
The day started at the oval when our Under 15’s took on the Barossa Bulldogs. These teams had a win each during the home & away games so everything was set for a thrilling semi-final. Our lads got out of the blocks well and played fast open football holding sway all match. With winners all over the ground the Tigers finished the match off easily and ran out comfortable winners by 39 points. The Tigers had the best 3 or 4 players on the ground so dominant were they. Brandon Acton was judged the best for the Tigers in a very even team performance. Others to play well were Trey Mason, Josh Denton, Cameron Tagg, Riley Goodfellow and Brad Pilkington.
Good things continued for the Tigers when the Reserves belted Willaston by 36 points having 16 more scoring shots than the Donnybrooks. Right from the first bounce the Tigers had winners all over the ground and out ran the Willaston side. Getting the first use of the ball by youngster Tyson Duffield in ruck the mid-field led by Kyle Wurst tore the Willaston defence to pieces and the game was really over by half time. Kyle Wurst was clearly best on ground and others to play well for the Tigers were Ryan Wenham, Dylan Bell, Steven Gladigau, Aaron Fox and Lee Corneliusen.
The day only got better when the A’s took the field against the Donnybrooks. The first quarter we saw copy-book football from the Tigers as they ran the football forward with great precision and had a comfortable margin at quarter time. Things tightened up in the second when we kicked too many points and the Donnybrooks couldn’t miss. The second half was a one horse race when the Tigers poured the pressure on and kicked away from the Willaston side. The margin of 45 points wasn’t a true reflection of the game as the Tigers had 15 more scoring shots over the course of the match. Daniel Stanley was easily the Tigers best player followed by Craig Jamar who manfully took on the Donnybrook’s big men, Kalon Heintze, Brad Hunt, Andrew Wright, Matt Gibson and Clint Hill.
Over at the courts, the day started out with our two undefeated Junior sides who continued their winning streak, both teams playing great netball – Junior 2’s defeating Willaston 51 to 27 and Junior 1’s defeating Freeling 52 to 35. Next stop – Grand final day for these 2 teams – top stuff!
Our Inter 2 team who played against Willaston struggled a bit on the day and were defeated, so they now get to use their 2nd chance by playing in next week’s Prelim final. Similarly, so do our Senior 5 and 6 sides who also both did not score wins, but with a week to work on things, should be able to turn things around next week.
Our undefeated Senior 4 side, played a fast paced game against South Gawler leading at every quarter to return a 50 to 38 victory at game end. Well done Tiger gals – to the Grand Final you go too!
This coming Saturday we have the Preliminary Final being played at Willaston where the club will be represented by 5 netball teams. In the morning at the courts starting at 9am our Sub Junior 2 team, followed at 10am by Inter 2 and then into the afternoon to watch will be Senior 6 at 1.15pm and at 2.45pm both Senior 3 and 5. Lot’s to watch in what should be a great day of sport – all Club supporters needed to cheer our gals on!
Kingsford Hotel Club Person(s) of the Week is awarded to both Kym Nicholls and Aaron King for their recent efforts so readily assisting over at netball following their recent break-in. Thanks guys – certainly appreciated you both being able to assist so swiftly. Love your work
