The weekend got off to a very cold and wet start on Friday night at Willaston Oval. Our Under 9’s and 11’s played against teams from Willaston. The Under 9 Gold team award recipients were Lachlan Hutchins, Luke Hutchins, Lucas Price, Jayden Reed, Thomas Sheperdson and Thomas Tligi. The Black team’s award winners were Zy Longman, Archer Butler, Riley Edge, Hayden Rosensweig and Henry Roeger. In the Under 11’s our Black side defeated the Willaston boys playing some good football in very difficult conditions. Award winners were Shyla Tucker, Cooper Argent, Jayden Balacco, Bryden Hicks and James Spicer. The Gold side also had a good win against the Willaston side producing another strong performance in ordinary conditions. Award winners were Dean Saunders, Connor Guinan, Angus Daking, Zachery Mullan, Kyua Reed, Ethan Williams and Zachary Leefiang.
Saturday morning saw the Under 13’s played the first game on the main oval at Willaston and lost to the Willaston side. The boys put in a strong performance but fell away in the second half to lose by 40 points. The better players for the Tigers were Tyson Kerr, Seth Collins, Elijah McDonald and Clayton Burrows.
In the under 15’s our lads are playing some great football under the close instruction of their coaches. Unfortunately the boys just fell short on Saturday by 4 points in what was a close match all day. Better players for the Tigers were Jacob Marsden, Jack O’Connell Vincenzo Ienco (3 goals), Ross Grady, Jarrod Fisher and Zac Demarchi.
The 17’s game saw another very tight game with nothing between the sides all day. The game lived up the expectation of the top 2 sides playing each other. At the end of the game it was all tied up at 62 points each which was probably a fitting result for a great game of Under 17’s football. Better players for the Tigers were Hayden Reynolds, Trent Copeland, Cameron Tagg, Lachlan Roberts, Brodie Mathews and Lachlan Corbin.
In the Reserves we saw the Tigers not get everything their own way and had to battle hard against the Donnybrook side. In the finish the Tigers won by a comfortable 53 points and will take the win but Coach Pratt knows there is still a lot of improvement in the side. One of the pleasing things to come out of the game was the spread of goal kickers with 10 players slotting a major. Brandon Downie was judged our best player in an even team performance while others to play well were Josh Edwards, Steven Gladigau, Aaron Fox, Hayden Schliothe and Tom Williams. It was good to see Cooper Stoll play his first game for the Tigers and made a useful contribution kicking 2 goals.
Slow starts have plagued the Tigers over the past few matches but on Saturday they flew out of the blocks kicking 6 to 1 in the first quarter and never looked backed. Playing some of the best football ever seen by many of the supporters they were relentless and never gave the Donnybrooks a sniff. With winners on every line it was difficult to come up with best players. The final winning margin of 80 points was a fair indication of the match and with Barossa being beaten by Kapunda the lads sit 2 games clear on top of the table. Charlie Molyneux was back to his best with a near faultless display on the ball. He was closely followed by Daniel Stanley who sets up the play with his run off half back. Others to play well were Ben Walter (finding his spot on a wing), Craig Taylor, Jason Blakemore and Matt Gibson. It’s not surprising that there were 4 onballers in the best players Craig Jamar played a beauty in ruck and dominated all over the ground feeding his small men at will.
This week we host Nuriootpa in the battle of the Tigers. Winless year to date, Nuri still have a powerful line up and the boys won’t want to take them lightly.
