For one of the few times of the year all our matches on the weekend were played on Saturday. The day started with very icy conditions on the number 2 oval. Our Under 9’s and 11’s played against teams from Kapunda. The Under 9 Gold team award recipients were Jett Poulish, Noah Seddon, Thomas Shepardson, Luke Hutchins and Toby Haskard. The Black team’s award winners were Zander Walton, Aiden Schubert, Boyd Sandery, Jake Eime and Acher Butler. In the Under 11’s our Black side had a good win against the Kapunda boys and they continue to improve week on week. Award winners were Cooper Argent, Shyla Tucker, Connor Holland, Hayden Hanrahan, Jayden Balacco and Liam Rowland. The Gold side also had a good win against the other Kapunda team in what was another very strong performance. Award winners were Darcy Smith, Eyhan Demarchi, Cameron Kerr, Nicholas Storm and Seth Claxton.
Saturday morning saw the Under 13’s start the action on the main oval and lost a close game to the South Gawler side by 16 points in a very entertaining game. The better players for the Tigers were Tyson Kerr, Seth Collins, Ryan Dieckmann, Connor O’Donnell and Wil Schmidt.
In the under 15’s our lads played some great team football completely outclassing the hard trying Bomber side by 90 points. Although it’s unlikely the boys will play finals their coaches are to be congratulated on the excellent job they have done with these boys in 2016. Better players for the Tigers were Corey Smith, Jaye Mathews, Thomas Cameron, Ross Grady, Jarrod Fisher and Adam Greenwood.
The 17’s game was simply a 1 way affair with the Tigers giving the Kapunda boys no chance from the first bounce. With good players all over the ground the Tigers ran out winners by 182 points holding the Bombers scoreless. Better players for the Tigers were Brad Pilkington, Alex Robertson, Trey Mason Blake Lane (10 goals), Sam Dowden and Michael Geracitano.
The previously undefeated Reserves came up against the second placed Kapunda side on Saturday and the Tigers weren’t quite up to the pressure the Bomber boys bought to the table. Down on a few players the Tigers just couldn’t string enough goals together in a row to overcome the Bombers and lost by 24 points. Better players for the Tigers were Brandon Downie, Josh Edwards, Rhys Kalic, Jamie Wegener, Kris Cussion and Ben Clark.
In the A’s it was a tight game all day with Kapunda throwing the ball around & trying to stretch the Tigers onballers and it almost worked. Only 3 points up at the last break & the Bombers coming home with a slight breeze it looked like they had a plan which might give the Tigers their first loss for the season. With Daniel Stanley and Craig Jamar taking no further part in the game the boys dug deep in the last quarter to eventually run out winners by 16 points. Craig Taylor was everywhere hitting the ball hard and was clearly the side’s best player. Others to play well for the Tigers were Jason Blakemore, Casey Thomas, Kyle Wurst, Kalon Heintze and Matt Gibson.
This week we are back at home where we host the Tanunda Magpies. They are playing some good football at the moment so we will need all our supporters there to help get the boys over the line. We also have the 1889 Club reunion day for all 1889 Club members (contact Damien Brook to confirm your attendance), followed by the 100 Club draw back in the clubrooms after the games. The following week (30 July) we have the Comedy Night at Saint Brigids Hall – tickets available from Committee members.
July 23rd vs Tanunda at home – 1889 Club reunion – see Damian Brook for information.
July 30th vs Freeling at Freeling – Comedy Night at St Brigids.
