Our under 9’s & 11’s season concluded with the customary carnival at Nuriootpa oval on Sunday in near perfect conditions. It was a great day with all teams playing 3 games and the kids had a terrific finish to their 2016 season. We will celebrate the season on Wednesday night 24th August when the youngest members of the club have their Presentation night at the club. Contact Graham Vardy for more information.

The under 13’s started the action on the main oval at Nuri. Although the boys were beaten by a strong Nuri outfit they all enjoyed their last game of the season. The team’s football skills have really improved over the season which is a credit to their coaches. Better players for the Tigers on Saturday were Evan Brown, Seth Collins, Tyson Kerr, Hayden Johnson and Kye Demarchi.

In the under 15’s our lads came up against the undefeated Nuri side and although the boys played their hearts out they were no match for the very skillful Nuri team. Coaches Edwards & Wright were full of praise for their young chargers and in particular their willingness to take on the instructions as given. Better players for the Tigers were Lachlan Wilson, Ross Grady, Kai Mason, Jacob Marsden, Jarrod Fisher and Tom Cameron.

After the long break the 17’s hit their straps against a very willing Nuri side. They completely overwhelmed the Nuri team in the second half of the match kicking 9 goals to 1 point. Coach Lane was upbeat about the sides finals chances when they play the Willaston Donnybrooks in the second semi in 2 weeks time. Better players for the Tigers were Hayden Reynolds, Cooper Slate, Blake Lane, Brad Pilkington, Brodi Mathews and Brandon Kemp.
For the second week in a row the Reserves had not much more than a training drill right from the first bounce. They kept the Nuri side scoreless in the second half with winners all over the ground. In the end the margin of 65 points was probably a pretty fair indication of game. The Tigers had good players all over the ground with Captain courageous Rhys Kalic named best while Kris Cussion, Matt Neville and Joel Oxenham also getting plenty of the ball.

With not a long hanging on the game the A’s did all they had to do to defeat the Nuri side by 41 points in a lack lustre game. The highlight of the game was Brad Mercer kicking his 9th goal for the day giving him 100 for the season. This is the third season out of 4 that Brad has kicked 100 goals in a season. Congratulations to Joel Latimer who played his 150th A grade game for the Tigers. Joel was also named the Tigers second best player and he kicked a rare goal in his 150 games A grade career. Charlie Molyneux was at his brilliant best all day and was named the Tigers best. Others to play well were Joel Latimer, Brad Mercer (9 goals), Ben Walter, Kyle Wurst and Dylan Bell.

This week we can have a week off from football but we are hosting the 1st Semi Final at Willaston and need all hands on deck as it’s a major fund raiser for the club. If you can give an hour or two of your time let a Committee person know. We are also running the steak sandwich stall at the Gawler Show and need help there as well.
