Saturday up @ Freeling was a pretty good day for the Tigers all round! Featuring in the 2 football games plus 5 in netball turned out to be an exciting day for all supporters on the sidelines.

Over at the oval our under 17’s started the day’s proceedings for the Tigers against the Tanunda Magpies. Although the oval was heavy the surface was better than many expected. The game was very tight from the first bounce and the Tigers held a 2 point advantage at the long break. The third quarter was a real arm wrestle with neither side able to gain a real ascendency although the Magpies held an 8 point advantage and were kicking with a slight breeze in the last. The Tigers had a great last quarter and slowly bridged the gap and eventually hit the front with a few minutes to go. A set shot from Tanunda after the siren failed to register and the Tigers held on for a 2 point victory. Ben Clark was judged the Tigers best player and his 2 goals in the last quarter were first class, Zac Gupta, Sam Dowden, Brad Pilkington, Blayke Lane and Paul Searle also played well.

Over at the netball courts, the Senior 7’s took on Willaston in a determined fashion, sticking to their game and gradually bit by bit drawing away to a 8 goal win – 48 to 40 at game end. Well done Super 7’s! The senior 2’s were next in their game against Freeling and were back playing their consistent, relentless effort brand of netball drawing away to a great 5 goal win 51 to 46. Fab stuff!! The senior 6’s were playing at the same time and came up against a tough experienced Willaston outfit with the game ending Willaston’s way. Well done Tiger gal’s on getting to the prelim final stage.

Next up were both the Senior 3’s and 5’s. The 3’s started very strong in their game again South Gawler with a comfortable lead at half time, however in a game of 2 halves, South applied the pressure in the 2nd half with the final score being a nail biter with only a 1 goal win to the Tiger gals! The 5’s struggled a little against South Gawler in their game with South wining that one. Tough one gals, but again, well done to getting to prelim final stage too!

There was no slow start from the Tiger Reserves this week as they hit the ground running & played some very good football against the South Gawler Lions. Kicking into the breeze the Tigers held a slight advantage at the first break but took hold of the game in the second and never gave the South Lions a look in. It was a far better 4 quarter effort from the Tigers this week and no doubt they are looking forward to coming up against the Bombers next Saturday. Lee Corneliusen was impassable at half back & his tough approach to the football paved the way for the younger members of the team. Others to play well were Jamie Wagener, Brandon Downie, Reece Kalic, Sean Maher and Alex Crossley.

So to this coming weekend and the season ending Grand Final where the Club will be represented in netball with the Senior 7’s @ 11:15am, then Senior 2’s @ 1:15pm, followed @ 2:45pm by the Senior 3’s. Over on the oval the Club has the Under 17’s doing battle, followed by the Reserves, then the A’s take on Barossa. All supporters needed to encourage our teams to take out the wins – hope to see you all out up @ Willaston to enjoy the action!

Monday night last week saw the BL & G Football Association hold their annual Schluter Medal count at the Vine Inn. The Tigers fared very well on the night with the highlight being Trey Mason taking out the Under 17’s medal. Brad Mercer was awarded with the A Grade goal kicking award after kicking 100 goals in the home & away season – this was the first time in 19 years this has happened. Congratulations on Brad Mercer, Craig Taylor, Jake Asher, Corey Solly and Craig Jamar on being selected in the BL & G Team of the Year. Congratulations also to Aaron King for being awarded Player Life Membership of the BL & G for his 300 A grade games for the Tigers. The club was also awarded Club of Year for 2016.
