The weekend started on another perfect Friday night for football under lights at South where our younger teams all played against the Lions. The Under 9 Black side had a great game against a bigger South team with their award winners being Issac Wait, Daniel Boxall, Sam Argent, Harvey Iredale and Archer Butler. The Gold team came up against a very good South side and had a good game. Award winners were Navarro Sbordone, Toby Haskard, Jordan Anspach and Connor Gammie. In the Under 11’s the Black side defeated South Gawler White in an excellent game of football. Award winners were Jayden Tuckey, Jayden Carmody, Jett Poulish Luke Hutchins and Will Evans. The Gold side also had a good win continuing on from their run of good form. Better players being Mitchell Gammie, Cooper Luckman, Zander Walton, Louis Rix and Hayden Rosenzweig.

Saturday morning saw the Tiger’s under 13’s continue their great start to the season when the defeated the South lads in a good game of junior football. Last week the side couldn’t miss shooting for goal this week they struggled to find the big sticks but still managed to win by 9 points. Awards were presented to Tom Allan, Logoh Tligi, Jordan Tucker and Brandon Barlow.

Next to take the field was the Under 15’s who had a great game and never looked in any danger against the South boys and eventually ran out winners by 56 points. The lads are starting to put some good football on the park and Coach Nicholls couldn’t be happier with the progress being made by the group. Jaye Mathews was judged the Tigers best player after kicking 7 goals for the match. Others to play well for the Tigers were Ross Grady, Tyler Kemp, Austin Hill, Lachlan Wilson and Selwyn Highfold.

The 17’s scored their second win on the trot with a hard fought 10 point victory against a determined Lions outfit. The boys are starting to gel as a team and coaches Edwards & Wright are starting to see the result of their hard work with the boys. Better players for the Tigers were Trent Copeland, Owen John (4 goals), Jacob Marsden, Kai Mason, Josh Needham and Ross Grady.

The Reserves got touched up by South and were never really in the contest. Down a bit on numbers this week the team struggled against a very strong Lions outfit to go down by a little over 11 goals. Youngster Kyle Hummel had another very good game & tried to keep the Tigers in the game, he was named the Tiger’s best. Others to play well were Lee Corneliusen. Hayden Schloithe, Michael Davis and Cameron King.

It was billed as the game of the round and that’s exactly how it turned out with both sides having a chance to win the game right up to last few minutes of the game. The Tigers first half was all first class except for their kicking for goal. They should have been 2 or 3 goals further in front at half time but they couldn’t buy a goal, kicking 6 points in a row which could have easily all been goals. In the second half the South bigger bodies started to take effect and they slowly wore the Tigers down to eventually run out winners by 16 points in a great game of football. The win earned the Lions the Tom Symes Cup. Charlie Molyneux was again the Tigers best player with his close mate Ryan Wenham also playing very well. Others to catch the eye were Andrew Wright, Kyle Wurst, Dylan Bell and Jordan Neat.

This week, the Club awarded two Kingsford Hotel Club Person of the week to 2 very worthy Recipients. The First was to Kellie Grady who is the Team Manager for the Under 15’s. Kellie has been a Team Manager for many years and has become a mentor as such to all of our other Team Managers in the Junior Grades. The 2nd went to Club President, Andrew Pike. Andrew has taken on one of the biggest roles in the football club and as a whole we thank him very much for taking it on.

This week we host the Nuriootpa Tigers and celebrate the generosity of our Sponsors at the Dog Track. It’s always a tough contest against the Barossa Tigers and no doubt this week won’t be any different.
