Last weekend we ventured to Kapunda too take on the Kapunda Bombers on their own patch. The Under 9 & 11 sides played in the junior Carnival on Sunday at Nuriootpa and a great time was had by all participants and it was a fitting way to end the season.
Saturday morning saw the Tiger’s under 13’s easily account for the Bomber youngsters. This was the last game for the season for the Under 13’s in what was a very successful season this side. Next to take the field was the Under 15 side who had a very easy win against the Kapunda boys. Coach Nicholls was pleased with the lads effort and used the match to fine tune the sides game plan as they head to the finals. Better players for the Tigers were Lachie Wilson, Jai de la Perrelle (5 goals), Sam Griffiths, Kahleb Warren, Tyler Kemp and Jack Hutchins.
Next to hit the field was the 17’s who blitzed the Bombers and completely dominated the game from the first bounce and ran out winners by 121 points. 9 goal kickers on the day shared the spoils for the Tigers. Best players for the Tigers were Brad Pilkington (back from Central Districts), Sam Dowden, Cameron Tagg, Lachlan Corbin, Owen John and Matt Schulze.
The Reserves had a hard fought game against a strong Kapunda side. The final margin of a 15 point defeat was a fair indication of the game. The Coach, Chris Hummel played a team of youngsters whom he believed had done all the right things during the season and deserved to play in the last game. Young ruckman Kyle Hummel toiled all day against veteran Kapunda ruckman Adam Turrell and was judged the Tiger’s best. Others to play well were Adam Byster, Tyson Foreman, Aaron Fox (4 goals), Matt Taylor-McDonald and Paul Searle.
Playing against the second side the A’s and were within a goal the whole match until half way through the last quarter when Kapunda finally drew away to win by 25 points. With 10 players in the side having played less than 20 games the side has come a long way since the start of the year. Coach Wehlan was full of praise for his young players and sees plenty of upside in the next few years. Charlie Molyneux what can you say – his display was again truly exhilarating and was clearly the best player on the ground. Others who took the eye were Ryan Wenham, Kyle Wurst, Corey Solly, Daniel Stanley and Sean Brading.
Next week the finals start and we have the Under 15’s representing the club on Sunday against Willaston at Williamstown. We need our supporters to get over to Williamstown and support our youngest team in their fight against the Donnybrooks.
Unfortunately this week we lost one our past players in Jake Drew as the result of an accident. The Gawler Central Sporting community pass on their condolences to Jake’s parents and his siblings on their loss.
