We were back at the GCNC courts for our first game of 2021 on Saturday against Freeling. The weather was certainly different to last week, some may even say a little too warm for netball but we were glad to see a bit of sun!

We started off the day with a special surprise unveiling of a memorial plaque on one of our benches at Court 2 in honour of Kay Thomas, who sadly passed away in May last year. Kay Thomas was a highly valued member of the GCNC community, who contributed countless hours often behind the scenes but not without great appreciation. Kay will forever be taking the court with us as her memory lives on through us all.

Our senior teams certainly dominated on the courts on Saturday with some massive wins from our Senior 1s right through to the Senior 7s. Although it was a mixed bag for our junior tiger girls with some teams coming away with a win whilst others had a much harder day on the court. It was a great night back at the club on Saturday night for food truck night – the food was delicious, thank you to those that organised this! After just 2 rounds we enjoy the week off with a bye this coming long weekend before we make the trek to Kapunda in Round 4.

It takes a tremendous amount of work for our courts, canteen & clubroom facilities to be ready for a home game. Particularly after having a year off & with new Covid management practices needing to be implemented it was a huge team effort in the last week to ensure we were ready to go. You also may have noticed a few small changes around the club too, we now have a lovely new bathroom vanity & hand drying facilities as well as a whole lot of solar panels on our roof too – but just wait there are more improvements to come throughout the year. To all those that have helped in the last few weeks to make this happen, thank you! Without this our teams wouldn’t be able to take to the court.

Thank you to the Kingsford Hotel who each week provide us with a Club Person of the Week award. This week our award goes to Lisa-Marie Moloney; our much loved Uniform/Merchandise Coordinator & Umpire Coordinator. The start of any season is always a very busy time for Lisa-Marie organising everything from new uniforms & merchandise, sporting equipment, coaches bags, coaches folders, new netballs as well as umpire rosters all of which she does with what looks like such ease! Thank you for all your continued hard work for our club.

You may have seen advertised on our social media this week that the GCNC is running a raffle to win 10kgs worth of Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate – valued at $210. This raffle will continue over the coming weeks until our next home game against South on May 8th. Tickets are $2 each, tickets will be available to purchase on training nights or alternatively see any of our committee members to grab your tickets. Don’t forget you have to be in it to win it!

Senior 1 64 8 Casey Black, Donna Victory A strong performance today with a focus on our defensive efforts. Girls were solid in attack with strong drives to hit circle edge. A percentage boosting win
Senior 2 79 9 Paige Miettunen, Sophie Warland 4 quarter effort by all the girls, great performance
Senior 3 48 32 Ellen O’Hennessy, Ainslee Allen Very rocky inconsistent game, had a great last quarter to finish the game off
Senior 4 59 17 Sophie Burnett, Elise Hillebrand A few new faces into the team this game, after a slow start we settled, put the foot down & came away 42 goal victors
Senior 5 69 14 Casey Sharkey Great game again today ladies. Awesome talk and teamwork on the court today!
Senior 6 79 22 Min Pywell, Hannah Bowden Great game, thanks to all the girls that filled in for us this week
Senior 7 65 21 Azaya Zanker, Bec Leahey Great game, everyone took all direction on board and adjusted the game!
Inter 1 22 88 Bree Hryhorec The girls had some really good court play, which was pleasing to see
Junior 1 22 52 Mia Reidy-Baldwin  Certainly not the kimd of performance we know the girls are capable of, a disappointing game after last weeks effort. Hopefully we learn from this experience to come back with a better game after the bye.
Junior 2 31 27 Victoria Carter  The girls brought back the game to end up winning by 4 goals. All girls gave 100% throughout the game, even when put out of their comfort zones.
Sub Junior 1 6 29 Maya Allester-Briggs, Sahara Challen The girls unfortunately lost to a strong side. It has given us some insight on what we need to work on at training in the coming weeks
Sub Junior 2 16 8 Stephanie Barnett, Jasmin King What a game girls! All the hard training is paying off.
Primary 1 7 5 Layla Pratt, Tianah Solly Well done on a hard fought win today girls. We just need to work on keeping our little dancing feet still
GO 1 Emily Dawe, Elysia Ey Another great game by our little tiger girls, Great passages of play & so many intercepts
GO 2 Ella Davis, Matilda Oermann Girls played absolutely amazing for their very first game. Super proud of them
