History – How Gawler Central Sporting Club Inc. started

The Sporting Club concept was twelve months in the making and came about as result of a unanimous decision by the five sporting entities using the Gawler Central name to change the incorporated entity from the Football Club to a Sporting Club. The main reason for the change was for the assets of the club to be administered by a Committee who had the interests of the whole sporting community as its focus.

The five separate entities were: Football, Netball, Cricket, Tennis and Soccer

The first AGM of the Sporting Club was held on Sunday 28th October 2001
to official form the Gawler Central Sporting Club. The Executive
Committee was duly elected (see below) and the Gawler Central Sporting
Club was formed:

President – Peter Symes
Secretary – Kingsley Songer
Treasurer – Geoff Slade

At the subsequent Committee Meeting in November 2001 the five clubs each provided two of their members each and the club Auxillary provide a single member and this formed the basis of the General Committee for its first year of operation.

The Constitution and Rules of the Club were accepted and a copy is displayed on the website for all members information.

Since its incorporation the Sporting Club secured Major Sponsorship from firstly McKinlay Estates and this was continued by various other companies including The Kingsford Hotel, Gawler Stock Feeds and Caffe Acqua. Many other local and related businesses have also sponsored our Club at various levels enabling the club to spend money and supply resources on junior development for all sports as well as improving the amenities that it manages.
